Shop prep. continues
Saturday, that’s a work shift day so down to the shop. Thank goodness I only live 5 minutes away as I remembered to take my hammer but forgot the timber skirting boards – so a quick walk back and fetched the timber too.
The section behind the door is split between the two of us and I have the top half. So in this section, I have painted the wall in the layers of colour behind my logo. I have added two battens and then fixed skirting board as a lip on each to hold prints on. To start with as you can see, I have seven prints on display. My art tools chest of drawers is turned around so I can move it to access the drawers but they are not accessible to customers. The stepped section on top was made from pieces of pallet and the cabinet was from a friend who found it didn’t do what they got it for. The art on display are my original art postcards.
Just some new labels needed for pricing goods. There are some pirate chests and a ring box also available.
This unit will be used to display framed art – prints and originals. on the wall section above it I will exhibit two art pieces at a time. Currently the top piece is ‘Fallen character’ drawn at RSPB Arne. I have put in safety measures so the framed pictures can not fall forwards.
At the right hand end are the back of my main window side cubes. These are best seen from outside the shop.
In the centre display area of the shop I have my card carousel and the browser containing more prints in mounts. On the front of the shop counter I have the lower row of cards. On the left hand end of my old suitcase that belonged to my grandfather and displays the ProMarker sets 1 and 2 plus fineliner sets of pens. Also some of my leaflets about my art and he dog biscuits in two sizes for visiting canines.
I have the single pane window and the picture is on view to people walking behind the back of the shop to or from the Daisy May arcade.
I have added the ‘Art in the heart of Swanage’ board from our original shop sign to the top beam of the scaffold wall. At the left end my batten boundary will gradually display the colours of my logo layers. I have added three battens with skirting board lips so that I can display a mix of A4 and A3 prints and original art. The lower batten on the left will showcase my 6 x 4 framed pieces, miniature canvases, and Hirameki postcards.
The fixed bench and two tables plus additional surface will host a variety of pieces – to be decided next week – I have three days to finalise my display for Monday April 12 (opening day subject to government date changes as always).
Against the end of the counter is my original artwork browser showing pieces that do not have prints or cards made and pieces that do.
Feedback from friends and customers will be welcomed once we open up again and as I have already said to some friends the Andy heckling to passers by starts in its usual good natured way from the 12th from 10 to 5.
Hopefully, I will see some of you then.
Andy
