Today my body let me know it was tired, so extra rest. When we did get out for a walk this afternoon I wasn’t carrying art materials but had the phone camera as always.
I always find that I am looking at places, features around me and noticing additional details that I can use if drawing from memory. This afternoon we went along Swanage Pier. Blustery but milder than expected. The structure of the pier is a fascinating thing and when you go to the lower deck at the seaward end you can see the structure more clearly like when I kayak beside it or under sections of it.
Drawing more of the pier’s structure appeals – it links to my dad’s work and interest in constructions as a civil engineer.
I realised today that the platform partway along the pier is configured differently to how I have thought before and this will help me in future drawings, always collecting art ideas – when I was a teacher my brain was always switching into relevance to geography mode, so not a new thing.
Looking from the pier to our flat and vice versa (once home).
Even having a coffee I am drawn to possible sketching / drawing lines – here looking out of the window of The Cellar Bar, below the Mowlem Theatre where we like to have a coffee because of the views.
So, a day off where I have rested as needed, got some fresh air and exercise and made some observations that will come into work at some point in the future.
