See surfers, draw surfers

On my walk today I got to watch up to 8 people surfing or at least attempting to in Swanage Bay. I took, photos and videoed them as I find it easier to draw activities involving movement after the event.

I decided to try today’s theme using my A6 original art postcard format which allows me to try a wider range of topics which can sell at a lower price point than a larger piece fetches. I was pleased with both pieces and am now thinking of other formats I could do some surfing pictures on. I have drawn a number of sailing pieces – both yachts and dinghies over the last 18 months, some kayaking and it would be good to add another water sport popular locally.

Piece 1 – “Surf’s up, Swanage Bay”

I caught this surfer several stages of one wave in photos with my mobile phone camera. I zoomed in and used the groyne as a reference point. My work including the sea have improved so much in the last 18 months too.

Piece 2 “There’ll be another one along soon”

These two were chatting away while waves seemed few and far between but it was that friendship and shared endeavour that caught my eye.

Both pieces will be added to the A6 card range tomorrow in the shop for £5 each. I hope these sell pretty quickly online or in the shop.
