Doing some #artforfun for myself

When I draw at the studio/shop I am often producing pieces to sell, but not always. Sometimes when I am hosting people to do ‘Art for fun’ I will draw a piece for a reluctant child to colour in. Or, I will draw a fun postcard to amuse myself at trying something new, sometimes I will gift this to a child at the table.

The other fun activity I do is producing my outfits that I wear when working. My pith helmets, now onto third and boilersuits are done for my own amusement. They also act as a good advertisement for what my art is about or can show.

On Monday, we went over to Poole and the army surplus shop had two more of the more upright policeman style pith helmets in the window, so I bought one.

Yesterday while a local friend was drawing I drew a line drawing on the hat based on my own memories of the local coastline looking offshore. She was surprised how quickly I had drawn the main outline (less than 20 minutes). I then added some colour and some details later.

Today I worked on the hat again in the afternoon and this meant adding much more detail to the shore around the pier and Peveril Point in the Bucks Shore area off the sailing club. I was pleased to add as much as I did as a line drawing and colour work too.

Day two progress

The work on the hat prompted a lot of discussion with passers by when it was dry enough to sit outside and visitors into the shop intrigued by my outfits.

Last week this is an example of an art for fun card donated to a child who was drawing a car piece.
