Not taking the pith

Last Mondays week ago I bought a new white pith helmet because:

a) I needed one for a commission

b) I saw one

c) they are fun to draw on

Answers b and c. In the four days at the studio last week I started a scene of part of the Swanage coastline and have added ideas based on memory and things seen.

Pith helmet seeks inspiration from one I drew earlier in 2022
Coastline idea became a line drawing from memory

Watched by friend who was drawing at art for fun table

This was amusing as I stated my intent to draw on the hat with a vague idea in my head knowing that once I committed pigment liner to the hat this was what I would have to work with. Milly ho was drawing by me was astounded when the above drawing took in her words ‘15 minutes’ I have no idea tbh.

The next stage has been to add additional detail and then start the colour process with Posca markers.

Day four -More details then the sea added

Week two, I have some commission work to finish, continue with days 11 plus of Inktober and the next section on the hat is the land based area around to Durlston Bay and country park as far as Anvil Point Lighthouse.

More posts in week two – I am pleased that this is a great advert for what my drawing is capable of.
