Art trails with school children and the public

So, on Thursday 23rd I assisted Sara Parker from Dorset Coast Forum on the rearranged Open Classroom day with three local primary schools. The children aged from year 3 (7 to 8 yrs) to year six (10 to 11 yrs). Over the day we did 6 trails and 153 pupils in total.

I was there as the artist representative giving background on the artists, who they worked with locally, media used and any additional extras to look for. I also added to the geography / history aspect as I know a reasonable amount about both for Swanage bay.

Artist outfit and warm coat

I enjoyed taking part using some of my teaching skills and I knew a number of staff and children including two classes from Swanage Primary who did their art project on sketching with me two years ago.

Then on Friday 24th I waited at the shop and just before 11 I found myself with 6 takers for the public art trail tour 1 of 4 (one each month Nov to Feb). My voice got lost a bit in the breeze sometimes apparently from feedback but my visitors learnt things even a local friend who does work with the museum so it was great to know I had some additional information.

Public trail – same outfit, as it works

I will be taking three more public free trail walks between 11am and 12 non from my studio on: Tuesday 19 December 2023, Wednesday 24 January 2024 and Friday 16 February 2024. Just meet me at the studio if interested, please dress for the weather.
