Carnival Week 2024 and July
Well the shop has been busier and busier over the last month for Art for Fun. In July once the school holidays started the take up accelerated and we finished the month on 208 taking part over the 18 days – an increase on 2023 of 48 people.
Swanage Carnival approached us about being a named programme activity and the answer was a clear yes, but at the shop and not up on Sandpit Field. I went back to the records for 2022 when we had our “Beat a record day” on the final Saturday with 64! Not something we have felt the need to repeat since and 154 in total. 2023 with more mixed weather still reached 152. So would we get more? Well hot weather meant a lot of beach time was enjoyed by visitors and the five days saw us host sessions for; 29, 51, 32, 43 & 40!! Breaking the previous highest after 4 days and a new total of 195 taking part in just 5 days.
Those first three days putting the July figures in perspective too. Of the 208 hosted – 112 of them were in 3 shop days, the other 96 over 15 shop days.
I have one small commission box to complete by the end of Lifeboat week but the pen work is done already and I shall be como,eying that this week.
Sales are down, but not unexpectedly. We wait to see how the rest of August goes, what our monthly total will be and also what the annual total will be by the end of August and the 3rd anniversary of opening AndyKnillArt Studio.
The key thing is to keep enjoying my art time, providing art for fun and drawing my sketches on customer bags which I really enjoy the challenge of.
I do have to admit that hosting 40 plus a day, plus linked family visitors and shop visitors and for the last week “What’s not my line?” Teams has been tiring so days off are being seen as a resting opportunity as much as possible.
