Looking up at trees against the sky
In previous pieces my winter trees have become more detailed over time as I have drawn them more often. The two pieces these are most popular in are:
“PAW studio in the snow” and “Looking up, wintery sky”.
I have wanted to add different seasonal trees and on a recent walk to Durlston Country Park earlier in December I noticed there were still some leaves left in the trees above us. I took some photos. I wanted to draw this scene as an end of autumn / autumn to winter transition. I started the piece yesterday and then spent most of today’s shop shift drawing in sections with some eye rest in between.
I have called the piece “Last of the leaves” and aim to release the original drawing, giclee prints at A4 and A3 size plus greeting cards. I feel that this stands a chance to be another popular piece.
To draw it I drew it in stages. Working my way around the border of the photo drawing in the main ranches. Then taking a section by section approach of adding further branch and twig detail. finally I added the leaves.

Most of the work is in Staedtler fineliner pigment liners and then some trunk detail and leaves colour is using Winsor and Newton ProMarkers.
