Work, review, consult, work

Until 2020 commissions were something that I hadn’t been asked to do many times, which suited me as some early on had either gone wrong or caused me stress as I found myself working to someone else’s expectations which weren’t always clear.

Now, however I am more confident and I have a number of different pieces in my portfolio. So commission 1 collected by client yesterday had included some consultation time mid work to check their thoughts about the piece. I did the same today having started commission 2.

Commission 3 and I are swapping images and information so an idea is starting to formulate and then when commission 2 has been collected it will have a draft design for client consultation before I produce the final piece. This structuring of tasks works well for me. I have only had to work to a tight deadline on one piece, but my thought processes and the clients were in sync very quickly.

I take this to mean that I am developing work patterns that mean that I don’t put myself under pressure, I involve the client through the process and we are both happy with the outcome.

This lockdown has seen me doing more research about aspects of running my business and ways that things could work better. As I have blogged about before lifelong learning is something for us all to be open to.

Tomorrow – more commission 2 work…
