Marchmeetthemaker day 16 prompt – so for me a search for an older portfolio case and the pieces I have shared on Instagram (@andy.knill) and Tik Tok (@andyknillart) this morning.

This is an early sketch in the first few pieces of using the promarker colour pens. Papermill lock outside Chelmsford, Essex was a favourite location for kayaking and walks ending at the cafe. This was drawn live and colour added later.

I took part in 2015/2016 with some London Urban Sketchers Meetup this one was mind blowing in terms of windows and was cool on the hands after a while.

I used to attend a committee meeting three times a year for my subject association. Meetings shifted to the meeting rooms in the pub to the left of this picture. I tended to arrive early and after the meeting I would explore various parts of London on foot. This was an A3 sketch.

This was drawn on a walk along the Regents canal after my meeting.I sat down to draw this from a bench and an American student sat down and drew a pen and wash piece.

I used to spend a lot of time not far from Liverpool Street station, London where trains to Billericay where we lived ran to / from. I would explore the streets around Brick Lane, Old Spitalfields Market and latterly Hoxton and Shoreditch and take lots of photos.

Cambridge urbansketchers trip to the museum of archaeology and anthropology, I spent 2.5 hours on this, all drawn in situ.

We had our Easter holiday in Swanage in 2016 and this was drawn while visiting Corfe Castle. In this holiday I found out about the job that would bring us to Purbeck. Ultimately the job didn’t work out but we got to live in Purbeck.

This was drawn initially in pen and ink sat on the path to Houns Tout. The use of colour spoilt the drawing for me and most of my drystone pieces early on were pen and ink. This was drawn between 2016 and 2017 – and was the wall at the entrance to our drive from the house we rented for our first four years in Purbeck along with two other generations of our family.
So, apart from the Brick Lane drawing, the others were all drawn live which was my preferred way of working. Too often now I will draw from photos, usually that I have taken, but in 2021 I want to enjoy more time drawing outside in situ.
