New…display, chats about Art for Fun, artwork…
Another quiet day for sales, it is what it is. I had quite a few good chats with visitors about various aspects of art including telling some about Art for fun restarting on Monday from 10 – based on the last two days I need an earlier night on Sunday and an early arrival at the shop, I may actually have people there at 10 am waiting – that brings such a feeling of joy to have the opportunity to draw with others once more.
I have had the new proof cards for ‘Summer leaves’ and ‘Rest and Admire’ out and on questioning have even able to tell some visitors that prints and cards will be available from Saturday – off to the printers tomorrow.

I have added the new art to my side tables at the back of the shop. Also on the scaffold board wall I have exchanged the ‘Ready to sail’ piece for my newest work completed today – ‘“Golden Horizon” departing Poole, July 2021’ – I used a range of my photos and some taken by a friend in Poole Harbour on Monday from the water to add rigging and portholes to the hull. I have decided to just sell the original artwork and not have prints or cards made.

I have also made temporary signs to put on Jo Porter’s work when I am in the shop and not selling her work and similar signs about my work not being for sale except on my shop days and the rider that I have asked her to not sell my work – she has directly told a customer previously that she would still sell them something anyway on a previous shop day. I have left a letter requesting a meeting re. The shop and how to take things forward before we get into the busiest part of the summer with the school holidays – will she reply at all? Will she agree to a meeting where I have made the concession to allow both her parents to be there?? Or am I just wasting my time? to be perfectly honest I don’t know. However, I do know that I want customers visiting on any of the days that we are open as a shop unit, whichever artist, to offer a friendly and welcoming business – this is not the case at present, but the key word and I know sticking point is the concept of compromise which I haven’t seen so far from the other side. I have however experienced a lots of personal insults directed at me and I have had enough of that.
So a good day with the artwork and chats. A day to try and turn things around for the business of The Courtyard Studio shop unit as a whole. A poor day for sales and the need to have to take action yet again to try and make the shop unit a more consistent shop experience.
