Stewarding a Sunday
As part of being an exhibitor at Rollington Barn, the main exhibition area for Purbeck Art Weeks we need to do at least two duties assisting at the venue.
In previous years I have participated as an Open Studio and done my duties through serving at the bar for the private view evening before the festival opens. No private view as part of covid precautions means I signed up to steward on the first and last Sunday’s.
So from 10 to 1.30 today I was a steward, I welcomed visitors, explained our covid precautions, how our counter system to see where visitors have come from and how they knew about the festival. I also helped fellow artists log in their additional pieces because of sales on day one. I hung new pieces using the fishing line and top pins system where my height was an advantage. I wrapped items sold for customers.
Meanwhile I had the opportunity to chat other artists some of whom were new to PAW and me, but also a number of familiar faces and participants as this is my fifth year.
I also met the couple who bought the original of my beach hut first seller as an image back in 2017. They could see how my work has developed in the intervening four years.
In two days I have sold a number of cards and I am pleased with how my work looks, the interesting thing will be how well my work sells across the fortnight.
