New youngest art for fun participants
So a quiet shop day but two highlights;
Art for fun
A young mum who lives near the studio was passing, the children always say hello – they were off to get some cards from the children for dad’s birthday tomorrow – I chipped in that they could draw their own for just 50p each- yes two new partakers – aged 2.
Now, I let two 2 year olds use the ProMarkers, admittedly under very close supervision – so the markers were selected from the marker folders by each child. The lid of the broad end was kept by mum or me and they just used that end. No damage was done to the pens, the table got drawn on a bit but that’s fine.
End result –

It was fantastic to offer a cheap but creative solution for mum and the children were occupied a lot. The children enjoyed the colours. The markers were safe under supervision. A slightly bonkers offer to make possibly, but great fun to do.
Art for fun follow up
Two pics on either side of sheet were taken into school today to share by another neighbour’s child – aged 4.

Last night at the exhibition launch for Josh Hollingshead another recent art for fun convert was keen to say hello and at times was following me around.
This is what Art for fun is about and building a band of regular participants whether they be locals or regular visitors to family or holiday are part of what I want to build. I also have had several conversations with adults of a wide range of ages 20s to 70s about what I hope the activity might offer them and I hope that more adults will take up the opportunity. I have passed my details on to the Swanage Well-being register as a free or low cost activity available in Swanage.
I am really enjoying how rapidly the Art for Fun has taken off and will continue up to build it going forwards.
Commission progress photos and communication with clients
How technology is so helpful when clients are not locals for commissioned art. As part of the process of developing pieces and involving clients I like for A5 pieces or larger, I send photos in private messages to clients and await response before proceeding to the next stage.
Clients appreciate it, are able to give feedback if any concerns arise, and have a record of how their commission has developed as a drawing. I feel it is a good way to keep the client involved – I now charge a 50% non refundable deposit before starting a piece to protect the time investment from me so the client’s involvement is a great positive input.
Saturday 20th tomorrow
The new shop front is scheduled to go in between 08:00 and 10:00 so the shop as packed away to leave a metre gap at the front this afternoon. I look forward to how the new frontage will be to work with.
