Why sell art if not for Christmas?

Yesterday I posted about the build up to Christmas and my opening hours up to Christmas Day. That’s obviously, hopefully, a Saturday that the shop remains closed.

I became an artist just coming up to five years ago, although I wouldn’t accept the term “artist” at the time as I didn’t feel I qualified. I tried to see if my art would sell.if you follow this blog and read my posts we know the answer to that one.

I have 9 cards in the shop that are dedicated to Christmas in the Santa Over Purbeck and Dorset series. There is the original design for the Wareham Quay picture which I later changed to include more of the river frontage.

The rest of my work is art that I produce year round and is available for sale at any time, the only pieces in the shop specifically aimed as seasonal gifts are two commissions drawn for clients who are gifting them over Christmas.

If more people want to buy art as gifts at this time of year that is fine by me. I draw scenes that catch my eye. Some linked series of pictures are starting to develop like the recent pieces showing parts of Durlston country Park. The tree series and sunsets have proved popular. I was working on an autumn tree piece to add to it but it has not worked how I hoped and I drew the Autumn leaves piece which is now in the shop. The second autumn piece was he original postcard which sold the morning after I drew it – the power of sharing on social media.
