January – traditionally a quiet month for sales
January, post Christmas and wintery is not a month when as many visitors come to town. The weather often stops people coming into town. So what does that mean for an independent small business owner?
For several local businesses that means that at this time of year they close for a month or more. Some restrict their opening hours or days. I closed early on Saturday after an extremely quiet day in the shop.
My plan initially is to continue to open on my four days per week from 10 to 5 subject to what Chococo are doing next door. I have a number of creative projects I want to start to work on and to consider my days at work as going to the studio to develop pieces, work on the shop layout … while I am working the door remains open for visitors and customers. I am appearing in the local pantomime this month and on Saturdays we have two performances so I am going to remain closed on the 15th and 22nd and save my energy for those.
I am keeping my calendars for 2022 at their reduced price of £7 for the month and hope to sell off more of those. I need to do some work on my online shop and market it more.
I am waiting on an overdue art supplies delivery which may include me starting to work on some larger works than my previous largest A3 pieces.
If you are in town please drop in and say hi. I hope that the Saturdays I am open I may see some of my local art for fun enthusiasts. Really it will be a case of seeing how the month goes.
