The joy of sharing my art space
I lost a week’s trading earlier this month due to my chest infection and reopened on the 13th. Since thenI have had the absolute pleasure to share my drawing tables and the art for fun activity with 67 participants from 2 year olds to adults in their 50/60s .
I find myself explaining the background to the business and I am gaining further clarity thatI clearly have two aims:
a) sell some art – this has to cover the costs of the business and does not aim to earn me a living which is a luxury that I am glad to be able to do and takes pressure off me, even though having a bricks and mortar base the costs are clearly much more than when I had a beach hut for December or rented a bay at Purbeck Artisan Yard.
b) offer a free art for fun activity – yes sales do come sometimes after participation, questions such as do you take donations to which I explain buying some art be it a card.. is welcomed. Also through the support of donors of craft materials and now some art equipment as well. I started my art to support my mental health and that is why I continue to enjoy my art, it is my main fun activity. Now approaching 340 people in 8 months shows that the new studio location is welcoming and I look forward to how this activity goes through my first summer there.
When looking at promoting the business I am often told how reviews are important, the most reviews I have are handwritten in the feedback book linked to Art for fun. Comments from children about the pens, the range of colours but principally the freedom to draw what they like without restriction is most precious to me.
Going forwards to the next school break which will coincide with PAW 2022 (Purbeck Art Weeks) I hope that lots of people will again join in as I enjoy the varied company, the range of observations, ideas and questions that I am asked as well.
If you are in the area please come and have a go, you will be welcome.
