I only blogged about this last on January 24th 2021, but already I can update more inspiration from one of those links. In October I spotted a very large yacht sailing past Swanage Bay. I worked out that it i puts be Pip hare who was off to France’s west coast for the start village of the Vendee Globe 2020 around the world solo and unsupported race.
I have been following the race for the last 101 days and on day 95, after leaving on November 8th, Pip Hare crossed the finish line as 2nd lady, 19th finisher and only the 8th lady to complete this gruelling race.
Following her posts on social media I saw that she was returning to Poole with her yacht (an IMOCA) Medallia and that today would be its arrival day. Late morning I started tracking Medallia’s progress. Anne and I travelled to Shell Bay near the chain-ferry from Studland to Sandbanks to watch her return.
The organisation behind Pip were very clear they didn’t want to break lockdown rules and urged people to #stayhome, but as this Ian allowable place for us to walk locally we went. Social distancing on the beach was easy and we actually saw some friends from Swanage Sea Rowing Club who were unaware but stayed to watch.
I tracked the yacht’s progress as it approached and we saw both Dorset Police marine unit boats go out to meet them, alongside the pilot boat from Poole, an RNLI lifeboat out on trials and two other boats, one of which seemed to have photographers to record the event.
Then we saw this…
The photos are all mine but apologies as taken by device from computer screen as I downloaded pictures from my camera.
This today was an inspiration and tomorrow I intend to record this very significant moment for Dorset and Pip Hare in some art. I am inspired by water-sports participation. It is a theme I have already drawn many times and I intend to continue to do so at a number of scales.
I hope that you have things that inspire you.<div class='sharedaddy sd-block sd-like jetpack-likes-widget-wrapper jetpack-likes-widget-unloaded' id='like-post-wrapper-123416164-4765-60c904b0e3cdf' data-src='https://widgets.wp.com/likes/#blog_id=123416164&post_id=4765&origin=andyknillart.com&obj_id=123416164-4765-60c904b0e3cdf' data-name='like-post-frame-123416164-4765-60c904b0e3cdf'><h3 class="sd-title">Like this:</h3><div class='likes-widget-placeholder post-likes-widget-placeholder' style='height: 55px;'><span class='button'><span>Like</span></span> <span class="loading">Loading...</span></div><span class='sd-text-color'></span><a class='sd-link-color'></a></div>
