The joy of art
The momentous ‘freedom day’ when to be honest I think most businesses continued their covid safeguards due to rising cases locally. I had planned and used the day to relaunch ‘art for fun’ one of my key principles behind the shop premises in November 2019. Last time it ran until March 2020 and the first lockdown and this is the first time the “rules” allowed its return.
So what is ‘art for fun’?
The first time I had a scaffold board table that took up quite a lot of my floor space allocation in the shop. I wanted to continue what I had offered at Purbeck Artisan Yard and my Open studio during Purbeck Art Weeks which was an opportunity to share my marker pens and a free piece of paper (postcard size) and the encouragement to try drawing and see if he process rather than the outcome helped others to relax, switch off, be in the moment. This is how I started having art in my life and the drawing practice that became AndyKnillArt in February 2017.
Now I have two foldable table which can be used together or apart with my wooden garden searing from Rescue and Restore plus my new artist chair from SAA to seat up to 4 guests and myself, in between serving other customers. Today one table was inside for two children. The other outside the back of the shop in the shade and cool for an adult guest. The children arrived first and I sat with them sharing pens and ideas as they worked on their creations and I started a commission from Saturday. Once all three were working I moved between them and spoke to other shop visitors. After they had drawn on paper and / or wooden boxes they all wrote reviews for me in my feedback book which I shall share another time.
Interested?
This activity will run on every one of my day duties in the shop unless the covid rules / restrictions change again. I am open from 10 to 5 and guests are welcome upto 4 at a time in that working day.
Please do not come on one of Jo Porter’s days and ask for it because it is an idea and offer exclusive to AndyKnillArt.
I have set a minimum age limit of 4 years and a maximum of 150 years (nominal figure plucked out of ether). Children should be accompanied by a parent / responsible adult as I am not offering child supervision,
I hope this can grow and become another usp for me.
AndyKnillArt – usp- unique selling points
1) wears own hand drawn hat and outfits to share and advertise his work
2) always willing to share art technique and equipment ideas linked to marker art like he does (no t lessons as spent 30 years teaching in a previous chapter)
3) friendly and chatty and very interested in people (I know many artists who are like this)
4) offers a chance to use his art tolls for free in his shop so that you can draw with a professional artist
Those who k ow me are these correct? Are there others!
So tomorrow and Wednesday then Saturday and onwards I plan to share the joy of art as much as possible – will I share it with you?
