Tuesday = a shop day. So the start of the shop day is setting up, getting signs out and setting up for Art for fun table(s). As the forecast today was a dry yet breezy day I set up two possible drawing areas – one in the shop in front of the original art wall and one outside the front of the shop which I hoped would be my base for the day.
My first arty task for the day was Inktober day 5 – Raven. I googled an image as I wanted to try and include some of the bird’s features as I am not confident drawing from memory. Just using a black fineliner was probably not the best choice and I feel the background wall was better than the Raven itself, but this is not a long project drawing each day. Once drawn it was added to my new display inside the shop.
Last night I had started the process of creating a profile for the shop on Trip Advisor and added to it today. Next step stickers, widgets and some printed materials to encourage visitors to leave reviews.
Next, I returned to working on my second new linocut. Now there are aspects of this that I know I already need to work on like reversing my original image on the Lino to reverse on printing. This piece is really too detailed in original concept to transfer into a linocut.
Even so I continued with the carving of the Lino today.
Then lunch and the visit of more friends and some art for fun for them both which was great to see. This afternoon I had an online chat with Tradewind Voyages who mange the cruises for Golden Horizon and shared my picture of it back in July.
Yesterday I had ordered a set of grey tones markers from Arteza whose adverts I have seen for a while and decided to test some of their markers out. The grey tones set of 36 goes into some greens and blues as well as greys. I drew an imaginary stormy scene based on one of the sorts of historic sailing vessels I have seen this year. The original postcard of this is now for sale in the shop and I have a set of markers that will definitely be working on more stormy scenes going forwards.
So quite a busy day, and all sat outside, admittedly with a boiler suit over sweatshirt etc and shorts of course.
