Inktober day 11 and a voyage
Todays prompt was Sour and I was puzzling what to draw as it felt too negative. A solution came in the form of Medallia.
Let me explain, Anne and I have had a day trip to Poole on Solent Scene with City cruises as an aspiration for several years. Yesterday the forecast me at we just decided to lay chores aside and have a voyage along the coast and through Poole harbour. The latter section we have done on a ferry when visiting Brownsea Island previously. I have been along the eastern edge of Ballard Down in a rowing gig once and at the Ballard Point and Old Harry ends on separate kayaking trips, but Anne hadn’t.
We loved the voyage and took loads of photos, I am off in a moment to download mine from the camera. Sunshine, a northerly breeze, not too strong and a sunny afternoon on Poole Quay.
Lunch and afternoon tea at our favourite eaterie on Poole Quay and adjacent to it is Medallia, the new IMOCA 60 that Pip Hare will compete in the 2024 Vendee Globe challenge event. So after lunch Anne went for a mooch, I sat on the quay wall and drew.

There was a sour link though as the PWC in the picture with its cover off was seen by us returning into the harbour and past Brownsea well in excess of the harbour speed limit, unfortunately the behaviour that puts me off some PWC (Personal Watercraft) users in their disregard for marine rules / respect for other users. Sour bit over.
The Medallia sketch was too crowded on reflection and once I started to include the foreground craft I knew this as I was drawing it.
Anne came back from her mooch and a great walk along the quay as far as Poole bridge and the floating RNLI station. Yes we looked at the Sunseeker models under construction but they really aren’t on any imaginary wish list of ours.
On the voyage home we passed the sail training vessel Prolific which I have looked at through binoculars at the northern end of Swanage Bay but we passed much close today.
A great day out, felt like tourists and loved it.
