September 2023 – Year 3 and …
So, the summer holidays are over and art for fun has calmed from the August rush. So what is happening with AndyKnillArt?
Community art project
Dorset CoastForum published on Facebook about a project to put art onto the flood barrier blocks on Swanage seafront over this winter (& 2024/5). I replied and got involved with the project straight away as it is a topic I m interested in as a geographer, resident, local water sports person and of course artist.
I have designed and submitted plans for the Monkey Beach section in front of the Pier head buildings on Lower High Street and Pier Approach. In total it works out as 9.5 metres of art (height 80cm). Much more and larger than anything I have done before. I have worked through the rested to enthusiastic to panicked to waiting impatiently to start drawing phases. I am working with ideas from and four individuals with Allsort’d a local group involved in supporting adults with a range of needs whom I ready know. On October 25th I should see my art work up on the seafront and I am very excited about this and the challenge ahead as all of my pieces will be hand drawn with 5M, 8K and 17K Posca markers. Details as project develops.
Hat commission
At the end of August a shop visitor commissioned a fancy dress pith helmet, he gave me the the order on Tuesday and wanted to collect it on Friday – I took his order and turned it around in time and it was very well received,

Memory commission
Two close friends – Charlie and Rob have become regular visitors and customers at the shop since we first met. Charlie has commissioned a number of small pieces from me previously – including 3 dog portraits last December.
Rob’s father Joe died recently and Charlie asked me to do a collage piece of memories. Charlie has always said the work being mine will make up for any, limitations which still didn’t reassure me at drawing a portrait, but Rob is very happy with his memory, piece.

Swanage RNLI shop Christmas card design
Asked for the third consecutive year linked to this years target of raising funds for new All Weather Lifeboat crew helmets. The design has been approved by the committee and gone for printing but I will not share until it is officially launched.
A new Santa over…series card for AndyKnillArt
Currently in the design process based on an idea that has been mulling for a few seasons and prompted by a sketch that I did on someone’s shopping bag last week. Again I will share when print version available.
8000 cards sold
In the last week I have passed the figure of 8000 greetings cards sold since AndyKnillArt started and of course mainly sold in person by me. A great milestone to pass and a figure which reinforces that my art does sell.
In the same thread I have now sold 413 prints and approaching 450 original art items.
Other bits and pieces going on too…so AndyKnillArt continues to be fun and successful too so I will keep going with it.
Ideas coming soon include Inktober, Boatober …
