Flooding Swanage with art – community project
I have now had my additional panels (6 x 1550 mm). 3 left to draw – first of those started.
To date;
Drawn on own
Bumper long panel – a pilot cutter off the shore, as sailing ships that historically would have visited the Swanage coast.

Two small rowing boats (monkeys) going back and forth to the shore.

Sailor filling barrel with fresh water from the spring on the shore of Monkey Bay – spring at foot of the limestone ridge.

Save our Sea – based on some design ideas from AllSort’d art session and including drawings of chocolate Sealife products from Chococo who are sponsoring the Monkey beach art panels. Drawn with assistance of Allsort’d clients and staff. Also links to diving in and from Swanage.

Sailing in Swanage Bay inspired by passing and visiting yachts plus the Swanage Sailing Club out for a club race in the wider Swanage Bay.

Cornish pilot gig racing with Swanage Sea Rowing Club and a link to the passing of popular club member Barnaby Quaddy this summer who I rowed alongside many times in my membership and first 3 years in Swanage.

Swanage Pier, our Victorian wooden pier and featuring links to PS Waverley cruises on the last operational Clyde steamer, back in 2022 and 2023. Pierhead Watersports based on the pier. Swanage Pier Trust itself. City Cruises and passenger ferry to Poole.

Two remaining long panels
These will show the contrasting conditions of a summer’s day and an easterly autumn / winter / spring storm on the stretch from Monkey beach to the Stone Quay – to work on once pier panel completed.

I am tired as drawing six mornings a week currently and four afternoons (ie four full shop days). Hand drawing all of this in Posca marker pens has been even more involved than I anticipated and a miscalculation in my head to actual total length being drawn. A new first and learning experience which means adaptations to my drawing style based on this scale has taken place and also representing my art style of such a large scale.I am very pleased with everything so far
Wednesday October 25th
Swanage Council will start putting up the panels on all four sections. Friday November 3rd, official opening by Town mayor and rung in by our Town Crier.
I admit I may need to have some work put up between those two dates, but doing my best to have as much done as possible for 25th.
I am really looking forward to seeing the whole scheme up and also receiving feedback.
Thoughts? And yes hand drawing 13.45 metres on this timescale – bonkers.
