Coasts and boats

Marchmeetthemaker does not have weekend prompts so this is one of my own developed more as Ilive by he coastand love boats. Some of these are drawn from photos on instagram as lockdown practices.

Sailability, Ringwood, Hampshire

An old friend from teaching volunteers at sailability and had told me about he coloured boat and sail combinations. When restrictions are lifted I am hoping to go and draw some sailing in this lake as it happens.

Prada Cup pre America’s Cup

The British Ineos team got to the final of the Prada team but lost out to Italy who are now challenging New Zealand for the Americas Cup in the AC 75s. His was drawn from one of the many photos of practices and racing with filming from the water and helicopters.

Valentines commission inspired by one based on this fishing boat from last year.

We have a few local fishermen here in Swanage and around the South West of England fishing is still an important business. They are boats that I would like to draw more of.

Sure up, Swanage Bay – this was an original art postcard. When I am out for a walk and see surfers locally I always try to get some action shots, and managed to capture some more this morning too.

Surfers are a water sport I have started to draw and intend to more of as I can do this locally.

Old Harry Rocks with a variety of water users

A fun printed card featuring Ballard Down from the sea when it looks so much larger as it towers above you. Here we have one of the local diveboats, the sea rowing club, kayakers, yachts and powerboats in the area. In addition you might see SUPs, and the Royal Marines out training plus jet skis. Many water activities to be captured a d recorded in art.

Old Garry and Ballard Down from the foot passenger ferry between Swanage and Poole

Again an opportunity to draw the local scenery from a different perspective. This original piece has now sold.

Studland Mooring, a topic up for debate as a protected marine area now for the seahorses found in Studland Bay

The protection area / boat moorings are hotly contested by local yachts and powerboats who consider this a local anchorage. Ecologically this is not compatible with the sea horses.

Old Harry original postcard

This led to the Old Harry from the water piece featuring kayaks that is now available as an original and cards. a view that I have enjoyed from Knoll beach with a zoom lens but even more in a kayak / sit on top kayak approaching by water allowing exploration around the stacks of chalk.

Old Harry rocks from the water as mentioned above
Golden Hind, London’s South Bank

This picture showed a historic ship (replica). I love traditional sailing ships and would like to draw more. They were a keen subject in my youth and I was fascinated in the rigging which can be a challenge to draw accurately.

Hopefully you have enjoyed today’s selection, tomorrow I will post from pictures away from the coast.
