Thursday, water based inspiration and covid taken seriously
So it’s Thursday, not on shift and woke early again to this pre sunrise.
I didn’t get up as early to paddle and I knew the wind was from the north east and stronger blowing into the bay. I decided to go and by 06:50 I was on the water again but today I used my sea kayak which better suits the conditions and a spray deck to keep me as dry as possible.
A choppier prospect and with the waves I needed to paddle at an angle to make the passage over the waves across them rather than parallel. I used my on deck compass and paddled to bearings. Today my brain got probably even more work with the conditions than my body and less stopping for photos.
Later in the day I took an opportunity to start some watersport original art postcards based on my time on the water but also someone out with an inflatable kite wing.
These and possibly some other cards have not gone on sale yet but will be in the shop with me from 10 to 5 on Saturday 17th. If you want one, they are £5 and each is unique.
Also we went into town for some coffee and errands. I took some more,photos around Java where I will be basing a new postcard piece on which was commissioned last night after the customer found the one they saw me draw on Tuesday had already sold. They will differ as the principle behind this series is that each card is unique.
This afternoon we walked to North Swanage where my mother in law lives in a care home. She was 99 in March and I have not been able to see here as Anne has been her one visitor for the last six months. To precede the visit we had to take a lateral flow covid test. Once these both came back clear the visit was allowed to continue.
This reminded me why we have been so careful all the way through this pandemic since March 2020. We have received our home tests so we can be tested twice a week, once at the care home and once at home. This gives me further evidence for any concerned customers that their safety is also a priority for me. I also want to keep bung able to visit my mother in law.
So from this Saturday 17 April can time I am on duty I will display my most recent test result. If I test positive then obviously, I hope, I shall self isolate and use test result to communicate with clients too. But when test is negative I want this to reassure visitors I am safe and I am taking their safety seriously too. This is in addition to following guidelines on ventilation at all times in the shop, face masks, hand sanitiser and when I am behind my counter I have two screens to shield the sales section and my drawing section. This allows me to draw without a mask on. When I come forward of the screens I hen put my mask back on. I have shared this today with a number of other small businesses as I think even though not a requirement it shows potential customers how seriously I take covid and it’s possible implications for all of us.
The evening finished with a spectacular sunset, this photo does not do it justice but I am still going to share to close my post.
An earlier night and tomorrow if I paddle it will e in the afternoon and I am going to try and convince my body to accept a lie in.
